Hey guys, so for my first healthy recipe I thought I'd start with one of my favorite things to make! This past year I fallen in love with making sweet potato fries at home. Now you might see fries and automatically think unhealthy, but if you know anything about sweet potatoes you'd know you were wrong!!! Sweet potatoes are super healthy for you and baking instead of frying is a lot healthier also. If you want to read all the facts and stuff about it, I linked an article here I found which is actually really informative if you really want to learn more about sweet potatoes.
Anyway... So I've been pretty obsessed with making these, I make a huge batch probably at least twice a month, and I think I can confidently say I've perfected this recipe to, well, perfection! And if you need anymore convincing to make this amazing food, it only takes 4 ingredients!! So let's get started with this recipe!!
These are what sweet potatoes look like right from the grocery store in case you've never noticed them before. They're kinda gross and dirty, but I promise you they'll taste delicious after being transformed!
Next you wash, peel, and cut the potatoes. You should definitely try and make them all the same width so they'll finish at the same time. I usually wait and preheat the oven when I'm done chopping because I'm kind of a slow chopper. Set the oven at 425 and then carry on. The only other 3 ingredients you need are olive oil (I love this garlic olive oil from Trader Joes, I swear by it and highly recommend it), garlic salt, and parsley! Parsley just makes these fries look more appealing!!
This is the part where I just kind of "Rachel Ray" it (code for "just add how much I think it needs because I'm too lazy to wash measuring utensils"). Basically just add enough olive oil so the fries are evenly coated but not drowning in oil, enough garlic salt that they all have a good amount on them, and however many green flakes your heart desires. If you don't like garlic salt or parsley, or have some other preferred seasoning, use it! This is just the seasoning that I prefer! I'm sure plain old salt and pepper will be just as delicious. Your work is pretty much done after this!
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and put the fries on! It helps to line them all the same way, just so when you have to flip them later it's a lot easier. Then pop them in the oven! I usually set the timer for about 30 min and once they looked pretty cooked it's time to flip and bake another maybe 15-20 min.
This is what they should look like when they're done!!! Ta-Daaa!!! Depending on how crispy or un-crispy you like them, you can adjust their time in the oven accordingly.
I really hope you try this recipe because these fries are so delicious and are perfect for anytime of the day, year, occasion, and meal! No need to pay extra at restaurants for sweet potato fries anymore because you can make them yourself! Let me know if you do try this and send me pictures! 4 large sweet potatoes
3 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp garlic salt
1 tbsp parsley
Preheat oven to 425. Wash, peel, and cut sweet potatoes into fries.
Place into bowl and add olive oil, garlic salt, and parsley. Mix with hands. Don't be afraid to get dirty!
Line baking sheet with parchment paper and place fries in a single layer. Place in oven to bake for 30-35 minutes. Next flip the fries and bake for another 15-20 minutes until desired crispiness. Take out and enjoy!
