Hi friends!!! I can't believe I'm saying this, but I am a college graduate!!!!!!!! I honestly can't believe how fast these three and a half years have flown by and it is just crazy to me that I'm done with college! My time at UT has been the best years of my life and I have learned so much! Here are 10 of the infinite things I have learned in college, since I now have wisdom as a college grad ;)
1. Time Management
College is an overwhelming time. For most of us it's our first time away from home and you're now responsible for yourself! There's hard classes, you're trying to have a social life, while trying to remember to take care of yourself. Time management was something that I had to learn in college and I can honestly say that learning to manage your time is the first step to getting your life together in college. Whether it's having a planner, creating a schedule, making lists, there are so many ways to help you stay organized and on track with your responsibilities!
2. Be Nice
This might sound like a dumb lesson, but wow, being nice can get you so far in life. You'd be surprised how many people are just jerks, and being nice and genuine is always a great impression to make. When you are more exposed to the real world, you find that being kind isn't a given and those that take time to have manners and be polite will make it so much farther in life.
3. Put Yourself Out There
Connections really are so important in life and can get you so far. I didn't realize how far until I got to college. So put yourself out there! Be nice and don't be afraid to meet new people and try new things! You never know who you will meet.
4. Opportunities are Everywhere
Going to a large university, I realized that opportunities really are everywhere you look, you just have to take advantage of them. UT has allowed me to explore any type of interest I might have and you can find just about anything you want as long as you open your eyes! Don't lock yourself in your dorm room for 4 years and miss out on all of the opportunities you could've experienced! College is not the time to regret!
5. Being a College Student has its Perks
Wow, being a college student has its benefits man! Whether this is Amazon prime trials, Spotify discounts, there are so many things out there that help college students save money! You just have to look for them! A lot of clothing stores such as TopShop have student discounts! Here is a link with a list! Use this to your advantage!!
6. Self Growth and Learning About Yourself
I can't even explain how much I have grown since I came to college. These past few years on my birthday I can honestly say that I feel older! College is such an amazing time to grow as a person and learn about yourself! What your personality is like, your likes and dislikes, college has helped mold me into an adult and it sounds crazy, but I really do feel myself getting older, more mature, and it's an amazing time! It's so special feeling like you're becoming the person you're meant to be!
This is similar to time management, because in college you really have to learn how to juggle and balance everything that you have on your plate. There is so much you have to handle and it's hard! Learning to balance all the important parts of your life is a crucial skill for the real world and college is a great time to learn it!
8. How to be More Open-Minded
Going to a large university definitely helped teach me this lesson, but growing up in a small town I was encapsulated in my own bubble and it wasn't until I came to college that I realized there was so much more out there! College gives you an opportunity to expose yourself to different cultures and different people and becoming more open-minded is an great skill to have!
9. Importance of Mental Health and Self-Care
As a psychology student, I learned so much about mental health and self-care throughout my time in undergrad. I didn't realize how important this was until I became more knowledgeable about the subject. Caring for yourself is crucial to living a healthy life, and learning about yourself and what you need in order to maintain a healthy mental mindset is essential. Mental health isn't something to take lightly and in college I have learned that caring for yourself is a priority if you want to succeed in life.
10. What I'm Meant to Do with my Life
College is the time where you learn so much about yourself and grow, but for me it was also the time where I found what I'm meant to do with my life! Some people are fortunate enough to know before college what their life calling is, or at least they think they do, but college is the time to make sure of that! It is also the time to find hobbies and passions just like I did with blogging! In college I found that dental school was my career goal and I am so happy to announce that I will be attending dental school next year!! Finding your calling in life is so exciting, and college is the perfect time for that to happen! If you're in college and still don't know what you want to do that's okay too! I strongly believe that we are all on the right path and we are going exactly where we need to go.
